Linking Lincolns in US and NZ

Friday, 29 January 2010

Twenty-nine “Lincoln” students - from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in the US - wrapped up three weeks of academic study at Lincoln University in Canterbury and sight seeing in New Zealand recently.

The American students were part of an annual short course programme at New Zealand’s Lincoln University, where they were accompanied by another group of Americans, from the University of Missouri.

It’s the first time the Nebraskan Lincoln University had students on the programme and the students were very enthusiastic about the experience.

The programme is organised through Lincoln University’s Professional Development Group and it covers classroom sessions with specialist speakers in agriculture, farm management and other land-related subjects such as viticulture, wine science and tourism, and field trips to relevant properties and sites throughout the South Island.

Courses at the University of Nebraska Lincoln include subject areas similar to New Zealand’s specialist land-based university, Lincoln University.  It differs in size through, with a roll of 23,000. Among its claims to fame is the development of the discipline of Ecology  -  which is also taught at New Zealand’s Lincoln University.
