NZ Secondary Students Excel in Exams
Tuesday, 1 February 2011
The worldwide results for Cambridge International Examinations confirm that New Zealand is among the best places for secondary students to excel at their studies.
Students at private schools run by Academic Colleges Group (ACG) found themselves among the elite as several placed "Top in the World" in their CIE scores.
Among these high achievers were the top A Level students for Business, Psychology and Painting from all CIE students world-wide.
In AS exams, the schools' students topped the world in English Literature, Painting, Physical Education and General Paper. For IGCSE, they had the top students in Mathematics, English Literature and History.
New Zealand's secondary students have also shown their quality in the latest results from the OECD's PISA rankings. Kiwi 15 year olds scored well above international averages in all areas. Of the OECD countries, New Zealand placed among the top four country results for reading and science, and among the top eight for mathematics.
