Gain the theoretical and clinical knowledge to work as a medical radiation technologist/MRT (formerly known as a radiographer). The Bachelor of Health Science (Medical Imaging) provides you with the knowledge and skills to safely use radiation to obtain images for diagnostic use. To produce these images, you need to develop a sound understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathology, physics and the medical radiation equipment and clinical techniques you will use.
Acquire skills and competencies in diagnostic radiography and experience an introduction to the more advanced imaging systems.
Each week you spend at least two days in a radiology/X-ray department, applying the theories and techniques you've learnt in class. To further develop your understanding of medical imaging, you will also undergo work experience in a clinical department between semesters. Our staff will assist you in finding a suitable clinical placement.
After graduation, you will be able to apply for registration to practise with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Board.
The Bachelor of Health Science (Medical Imaging) is also an ideal stepping-stone if you want to continue into higher-level study, professional specialisation and advanced practice areas.
