This degree is innovative as it challenges students to the ever-changing world of fashion. Students are encouraged to express their ideas and designs and will work with groups of students and invidually.
There is a "Fashion Incubator" in Dunedin and this is the 'cutting-room' of new ideas and professional concepts.
If you love to create, have a strong practical streak, and are fascinated by the way in which fashion reflects and influences society, then you�d be well suited to a career in fashion. The Bachelor of Design (Fashion) is a world-class professional fashion degree, which has produced a number of New Zealand�s leading designers and garment industry exponents. The programme is very practical, design-focused, industry-biased, and set in one of New Zealand�s most dynamic design education institutions.
This applied degree allows you to develop a high level of practical, creative and business skills within a culture of applied research. It encourages problem-solving skills and courageous innovation, arming you with all the design, technological and communication skills you�ll need to cut it in the rapidly changing fashion industry.
Students who have passed all requirements of years one and two and choose to exit at the end of Year 2, will be awarded a Diploma in Design (Fashion).
What will you study?
Programme content may vary for 2006 The course shares common design core subjects with Otago Polytechnic�s other design degrees, in Product, Communication* and Interiors*.
Work placement and industry interaction are important aspects of the programme, preparing you for positions within the fashion industry. In your third year, you will produce a major individual collection, supported by research, market analysis and special electives. This collection is launched at the major fashion show, Collections � a popular event attended by industry representatives and fashion aficionados from far and wide.
There are also opportunities to study overseas as an exchange student for one semester in either Italy, Spain or Brazil.
