Facilities

Christchurch Boys' High School is well provided with excellent facilities and equipment. As well as a modern Library and School Hall complex, there is a wide range of specialised laboratories, art studios, a music suite, technical workshops, and five computer suites. The school has a weights training centre, two gymnasiums and an all-weather training pitch.

Academic Programme

The course structure is designed to cater for all boys, whatever their learning background or level of ability. All students are prepared for the National Certificate in Educational Achievement (NCEA) in Years 11, 12 and 13. Accelerant and extension classes operate at all levels.

Languages

Chinese, Japanese, French, Maori and Spanish courses are offered.

English Language Support

Four hours timetabled ESOL classes are available to all International Students, with extra individual or small group tuition provided as required. Senior students may study NCEA Standards in ESOL and English. Year 12 and 13 students may study an IELTs course. Students can enter mainstream English classes if their competence reaches a suitable level.

Extra-Curricular Programme

The school actively promotes the participation of boys in sporting and cultural activities. There is a wide choice of summer and winter sports, Outdoor Education programmes, International Rugby programme, cultural activities and clubs.

Student Welfare

International Students' progress and welfare is overseen by the Director of International Students. Regular communication is maintained with guardians, as well as parents overseas. The school's Guidance Counsellor is available to all students of the school.

Accommodation

International Students attending the school board in homestay situations with local families. Homestay may be arranged through the school. Board is NZ$195.00 per week. Our Homestay Co-ordinator maintains regular contact with students, homestay parents and parents overseas.

Tuition Fees

Annual tuition for International students is NZ$13 000. This fee includes extra ESOL tuition as required. An Activities Fee of $800 for senior students (Years 11 - 13) and $600 for junior students (Years 9 and 10) is held by the school to pay for class trips, sporting trips, cultural activities, school stationery, internet access at school, and any other school-related expenses.
