International Students Tuition

Each year we welcome 45 International Students from Asia and Europe. International Students need to be able to cope with English in the classroom. All International Students are tested for English proficiency prior to entry. Timetabled extra ESOL classes are available for International Students at all levels (Years 9-13). Highly trained ESOL/English staff teach in a modern, well-equipped ESOL classroom. Senior ESOL classes (Years 12 and 13) prepare students for NCEA Level 2 Literacy, a requirement for entrance to a New Zealand university.

International Students Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care is a top priority at Christchurch Girls' High School. International Students living in Christchurch without a parent are required to be in the careof a school-approved guardianship company.

The guardian will care for the out-of-school matters concerning International Students. These include finding good home stay accommodation, travel arrangements amd airport pick-ups, liaising on a weekly basis with the student, as well as contacting the student's parents and her home stay parents on a regular basis.

The International Dean monitors student progress and provides pastoral care at school. She has daily contact with the students, their teachers, year-level deans and weekly contact with the school guardian.

There is regular first language communication with parents from Christchurch Girls' High School, ISC Ltd and the International Dean. We maintain the highest standards of pastoral care for our International Students so that they are happy and settled both at school and at home. As a result they can achieve to the best of their ability.
