About Us
Founded in 1889, Rangi Ruru is an independent (private) girls’ school located near Hagley Park in Christchurch. It is a very safe and friendly school with a roll of around 700 students in Years 7 to 13. The school has 120 boarders who live onsite in the school’s modern Boarding House. Some international students board, while others live in school-approved New Zealand homestays.

As an independent school, Rangi Ruru has increased autonomy about its teaching and learning programme.

Rangi Ruru has affiliation with the Presbyterian church. The school values are based on those of Christianity and many other religions, these provide the framework for interactions and relationships within the school and form a strong foundation for Rangi students’ life decisions.

Academic Programmes
Rangi Ruru has an excellent record and reputation for academic success, across nearly 40 subject choices. The school has a strong academic focus and small classes (maximum of 25 students). Specialist teachers provide a supportive and challenging education for all students.

Rangi Ruru is a medium sized New Zealand school, small enough to ensure that teachers know their students well and are able to offer them individual support, and yet large enough to offer a wide range of subjects and programmes.

Rangi staff are specialists in their fields and are committed to inspiring, challenging and empowering their students to reach their potential.

Co-Curricular Programmes
Rangi Ruru offers an extensive range of creative and cultural activities, including drama, debating, speech, chess, dance, creative writing, philosophy and international club.

The majority of Rangi girls are involved in thePerforming Arts - Music Dance and Drama. The school has many opportunities for girls to demonstrate their talents in a range of events, competitions and performances. A large number of Rangi girls are involved in instrumental and vocal music. The school offers many music groups including chamber music, orchestras and choirs.

Outdoor Education and sports are very popular at Rangi Ruru. There are over 35 different sports offered through the school and around 96% of students each year are involved in sport through the school at social and competitive levels. The school offers many outdoor experiences making the most of the beautiful environment that surrounds the school.

International Students
Rangi Ruru an excellent education and greatly values the global perspective international students bring Rangi Ruru. International students are fully integrated into school life and the classroom.

Specialist English language support (ESOL) is available at all levels on an individual or small group basis. There is also an academic English programme (EAS) for senior students wishing to prepare for university study and international English examinations.

The school has excellent technology and structural facilities. These include specialist teaching spaces including music, science and technology faculty areas, a theatre and many large group learning spaces, sports facilities including gymnasium, fitness centre, and pool. The school has a comprehensive internal wired and wireless network and is connected to the world through a large fibre optic network.
