Horowhenua College
Horowhenua College (High School) is a state secondary co-educational school with over 700 students and 60 staff. Founded in 1940, it is the longest established of the four colleges in the Horowhenua area. We take students from years 9 through to year 13. This is approximately 12/13 years of age through to 18/19 years of age, providing a complete education with an emphasis on preparation for tertiary education.

A Special Place to Study Abroad
Come and experience the 'Real New Zealand'! Levin, a provincial town (population 19,000) and is set between the wilderness areas of the Tararua Ranges to the East, with Lake Horowhenua and the coast of the Tasman Sea to the West. Levin is surrounded by the farming community and is 20 minutes to the closest beach. Horowhenua College is situated within close proximity, that is 35 minutes by road to Massey University, UCOL (Palmerston North) and Victoria University, UCOL (Wellington), 90 minutes by road.
Location, Facilities and Character
Modern facilities include computer suits, Library/Information Centre, Technology Centre, Performing Arts Centre, music suites, science laboratories, rugby and soccer playing fields, netball and tennis courts, two gymnasiums including a climbing wall, outdoor swimming pool and Canteen.
Academic Programme
The school has a highly trained staff and offers a full academic programme. Students are offered a wide range of subjects. These include standard subjects plus Performing Arts, a wide range of Technology subjects, Outdoor Education, Art and Languages. The curriculum is multileveled and offers national examination subjects (NCEA) at levels 1,2 and 3. All students are encouraged to strive for excellence. The school provides the opportunity for students to have either an academic and/or a cultural experience during their time in New Zealand.
Extracurricular Programme
Students are encouraged to join sporting and cultural activities within the wider school. The College has been very successful in national competitions in many areas. Choir, 'Stage Challenge', Jazz Band, drama, canoe polo, hockey, swimming, rowing, basketball, soccer, rifle shooting, rugby, netball, tennis and mountain biking are some of the activities offered.
English Language Support
English language support includes the ESOL programme with trained ESOL teacher.
Student Support
The school provides high quality care for its international students. The pastoral care team includes: Dean of International students, Homestay Co-ordinator, Year Level Deans, Tutor teacher, teachers and Guidance Counsellor. A two-day orientation programme is provided for students arriving in January and July and on an individual basis at other times during the year. An international BBQ is held at the beginning of the year with other social opportunities during the year such as international lunches held once a term, Outdoor Education trips and outings.
Accommodation
Homestay accommodation can be arranged by our Homestay Co-ordinator with families matched and selected very carefully. Homestay accommodation can be arranged by the school but if private arrangements are made, the Homestay Co-ordinator can also supervise these.

Annual tuition fee for 2010: NZ$11,500
Homestay fee for 2010: NZ$200 per week
