Kadhine Amorim

From a young age, Kadhine Amorim had always wanted to experience secondary studies overseas, but had only thought as far as the USA. However, her friends advised her differently. "Last year when I was looking for a high school programme, some friends that have come to New Zealand told me it was wonderful country to live in. So I decided to come here."

Now in Year 12 at Tauranga Girls College, Kadhine is very happy with her choice. "I really like being here because I'm learning a new culture, improving my English and I'm living in a beautiful country which is very different from Brazil.

As an international student, Kadhine is living with a New Zealand family and is thus experiencing the New Zealand lifestyle firsthand. "I like staying in a host family because I can learn more about the New Zealand culture. I think that is interesting to live with a family that I've never seen or met before....I think that this is the most different adventure that I have had in my life."

In addition to her study programme where the highlight to date has been a class Geography trip to Taupo Kadhine has enjoyed travelling around New Zealand, and enjoying a variety of recreational opportunities. "On weekends I always go the movies, Bay Fair, the hot pool and sometimes to party. It is quite cool!

"But what I enjoyed the most was my holiday. I went to the South Island and visited Christchurch, Fox Glacier, Wanaka and Queenstown. It was perfect. I really liked Queenstown. There are lots of adventure things and I had a lot of fun. Bungy jump was what I liked the most, I did it five times!"

For any student considering New Zealand as a study destination, Kadhine now has her own advice to share. "I would say 'come'! It is the best thing that you can do! I'm sure that you will have a wonderful time here." Whilst not sure of the next step once her New Zealand secondary studies are completed, Kadhine is sure of one thing she will travel around New Zealand for more bungy jumping before she leaves!
