Pyseth Meas

A desire to develop his skills as an agricultural research led to Pyseth Meas' decision for a post-graduate New Zealand education. "Before coming to study in New Zealand, I was somehow an agricultural researcher but I did not have the right ideas how to do research. I also wanted to upgrade my knowledge of English as there were many organisations (from English speaking countries) wanting to help the rehabilitation of my war-torn country (especially the Agriculture sector) and I worked with people and organisations using the English Language."

Professor Ashraf Choudhary from the College of Science recommended New Zealand as having the quality of programme Pyseth required, and he was able to obtain a New Zealand Official Development Assistance (NZODA) Study Award for study at Massey University from 1996 - 1999.

Pyseth had read of the New Zealand's beauty. He found this and more on his arrival. "The New Zealand lifestyle was strange to me. I must say that it is quite different better from the one I was used to in Eastern Europe. The country is very peaceful and beautiful, the people are very friendly, the education system is well advanced, well organised and well recognised."

The course Pyseth undertook a Master of Science in Postharvest Technology has led to results. "After the completion of the course, I have been able to improve my job performance (in both management and science) until I got promoted to be a Program Head (Agricultural Engineering), selected by staff to be their representative and proposed to be a deputy director of the Institute (CARDI)."
