Jian Jiang

Name: Jian Jiang
Born: China
Age: 28
Locations: Auckland
Discipline: Business & Management, Commerce, Marketing, Economics

Twenty-eight year-old Jian Jiang (also known as JJ) is a bit of an expert when it comes to AIS St Helens. Not only has he studied in the English Language Centre, the Bachelor of International Business Programme and now the MBA Programme, but he’s also worked part-time both for the MBA office and Student Liaison.

JJ came to New Zealand in early 2000 with a Diploma in International Trade under his belt and two years work experience as an Officer in the International Trade Department in Weihai City, China.

“I chose New Zealand because of its nice environment and good education reputation. An agent recommended AIS to me,” said JJ, who flats near the institute with some other Chinese AIS students.

“First I spent three months studying in the English Language Centre, which was important for me in order to lay the English foundations to study business. I then went on to do a Diploma in International Business as a way of getting into the MBA. There I learned lots of basic principals and I had a good time.

“I started my MBA in September 2001. This programme has helped me to gain knowledge and skills and pave a solid business foundation for my future career development. The teachers and the MBA office staff have given me lots of support and encouragement. I’ve really enjoyed studying in this programme.”

JJ is due to graduate mid year and is currently working on his research project which is a study of teacher motivation at AIS St Helens.

Motivation is something that this diligent student certainly isn’t lacking. Not content with a couple of Diplomas and an MBA, he’s now got his sight sets on studying French at Auckland University as soon as he’s graduated from AIS. “Before I came to New Zealand I applied to study in France, but at that time the student quota was full so I couldn’t. I’m fascinated by France. From what I’ve heard about, read about and seen on TV, it looks very romantic. Speaking fluent French will enhance my skills and benefit my career.”

As for his career, JJ plans to stay in New Zealand until the end of next year. He then hopes to return to China and put his spectacular range of qualifications to the test. “In China I can use all these skills to get a good job with a joint venture company or foreign enterprise. But the first thing is for me to get these qualifications and gain work experience.”
