When CPIT engineering student Zhou Junlei first arrived in Christchurch one year ago, little did he realise how much the city and his student experience at CPIT would affect him and his career aspirations. Now, more than ever, Zhou is looking forward to graduating and working in Christchurch – his new home.

“I really like Christchurch. It is so different from my home town in China where there’s a lot of pollution. Christchurch on the other hand is known as the ‘garden city’, there are a lot of buildings that I haven’t seen before and the population is small – in China there are people everywhere!” he said.

CPIT has also helped Zhou achieve his study goals and the institute’s location, learning and recreation facilities have all enhanced Zhou’s learning experience.

“One of the best things about CPIT is that it’s located in the city centre and it’s close to my apartment. The CPIT library is also great, there are so many books to help you with your study and assignments, and there’s free internet and computers to use. I really like the gym too because you can exercise and play sport.”

Following the earthquake in February, CPIT’s International Services team worked hard to ensure CPIT’s international students were able to return to their study as quickly as possible.

“Soon after the earthquake CPIT was in touch to make sure I was ok. They kept in contact and asked me to register my details on the CPIT website. I also went to the CPIT International Drop-In-Centre where I could ask questions about my studies and I received a lot of help. I’m still really enjoying studying at CPIT.”
