I knew I wanted to get out and see a different country but I didn’t want to take a gap year and risk never going back to school, so I decided to start looking at universities overseas. I chose VUW for its good mix of classes. I was able to major in both Linguistics and Psychology and still study Japanese.
Whenever I had a question about a specific course or faculty, there was always contact information on the website; and when I emailed questions to the staff, their responses were always prompt and so informative. It made making decisions easy. The information was so clearly presented on the website. The application process was so easy compared to colleges and universities in the United States.
The student body is large and diverse enough, there’s something for everyone. It’s so easy to meet people from different countries, people that have traveled and worked in many different places and people that are interested in all kind of things. Talking to them is almost like living a whole lifetime in one conversation. You can learn a lot from the people that you meet at Victoria. At the same time, the student community merges with the greater-Wellington community, which means that the city as a whole is vibrant with arts and culture and fun place to live. There’s always something interesting happening. Wellington is such a compact city I don’t even need a car to go every place I need to go.
Wellington is New Zealand’s capital city. It’s full of cafes, bars and theatres and has a beautiful harbour.
