Chills and Thrills in Queenstown
Sunday, 21 June 2009
The Kiwi IQ winners spent another incredible day in Queenstown to make the most of their weekend of fun and adrenaline adventures.
Bundled up for the chilly mountain air, the gang made their way up the Skyline Gondola, on the edge of town.
At the top of the mountains, Ibrahim had his first encounter with snow! Of course it didn’t take long for a snowball fight to break out.
The views were spectacular, with the clouds finally clearing away to show off Queenstown’s stunning scenery including The Remarkables mountain range.
Going downhill was a whole lot of fun using the Skyline’s cool luge tracks. Everyone donned helmets and took a ride on the wild side. In fact, it was so much fun they all did it twice.
Then it was time to fuel up at Sombreros Mexican Restaurant for lunch, although I’m not sure the headwear is 100% authentic!
The afternoon offered more thrills for the winners at Shotover Jet – New Zealand’s most exciting jet boat experience. Travelling through narrow canyons at up to 80 km/h and doing 360 degree spins on the river was awesome, despite getting doused in cold spray. And there was even more spectacular Queenstown scenery to enjoy.
The evening saw the group taking part in another Kiwi tradition, dinner at the pub! They kicked back at Speight’s Ale House, a South Island landmark.
