The Day That Almost Wasn’t
Monday, 22 June 2009
Even the best laid plans can be interrupted by the weather, and New Zealand is famous for providing four seasons in one day as the Kiwi IQ winners found out when they attempted to catch their morning flight out of Queenstown.
Things got off to a dicey start in the morning as fog kept flights out of Queenstown grounded for almost two hours. But the gang managed to pass the time until things got flying again and they could head back to Christchurch.
Their visit to the University of Canterbury began with a lunch at the Staff Club with some influential members of the local South Asian community.
Next they explored the HIT Lab (Human Interface Technology) where postgraduate students work on really innovative ways to use computer technology. They were introduced to virtual patients for student doctors, and a cool 3D visualization area.
Next they were whisked off to the NZi3 Innovation Centre, where ICT studies meet industry product development at the highest levels. While this cutting edge facility lives on the Canterbury campus, they work with several universities and industries around New Zealand.
The jet-setting winners then headed back to Auclkand to bring their journey full circle. For dinner they headed down to the Viaduct Harbour, a favourite place for Aucklanders to dine by the waterfront.
Now there’s just one more day for our winners to soak in the Kiwi atmosphere before they head back home to India to consider the next step to achieving their New Zealand education goals.
