Winners Study the South Island

Friday, 19 June 2009

Today our Kiwi IQ winners took to the skies once again to make their way to the South Island and the city of Christchurch.

The trip was incredibly scenic, with the snow-capped peaks of the Kaikoura Ranges shining under clear winter skies.

The first stop was CPIT (Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology) where the gang got a taste for Kiwi hospitality at the food and hospitality school.

In fact, their lunch was cooked and served by CPIT hospitality students at the campus restaurant, Visions.

The afternoon saw them checking out the range of artistic courses at the Design & Arts College. They saw presentations by graphic arts students, and also checked out the classes in architecture, fine arts, makeup and fashion design.

After getting educated about education in Christchurch, they had a chance to get to know the garden city a bit better. They took in one of the city’s longest running tourist activities, Punting on the Avon. Some of them even decided to have a go at being a punt driver. Maybe it will be a good way to earn some extra money while they are studying here in NZ. Ibrahim was a natural!

Back on dry land, they took another traditional Christchurch mode of transport – the Tram. They toured the city centre with helpful commentary from the tram driver.

Finally they got to relax in luxury at the Grand Chancellor Hotel, where their 24th floor rooms provided a great view of the city and surrounding hills.
