New Zealand’s Affordable Cities
Wednesday, 8 July 2009
A recent report from Mercer Human Resources shows that the cost of living in New Zealand's main cities is very affordable compared to other major cities around the world. This is mainly due to favourable exchange rates against several currencies.
Auckland and Wellington placed 138th and 139th respectively for the cost of living survey which compared 143 cities across six continents. This makes New Zealand among the most affordable places to live and study.
By comparison, New York City, Beijing and Singapore were all among the top 10 most expensive cities, London was ranked 26th, and Sydney was 66th.
Thanks to a lower New Zealand dollar this year, it has become great value for money to live in New Zealand. This is good news for students who are trying to get a top quality education without paying unreasonable amounts for accommodation, food and tuition.
In a recent cost comparison study commissioned by Education New Zealand, the cost of living and studying in New Zealand was found to be lower than in the US, Great Britain, Canada or Australia - the other major English-speaking destinations for international students.
It's just one more reason to come to New Zealand for your studies.
