Is English an additional language for you, but you already speak is quite well? The Diploma in English (Advanced) helps you to develop your English language skills for further study, employment or participation in the New Zealand community. Further your ability to speak, read and write English, and improve your vocabulary

This course takes one and a half year.

 

English language

Applicants who do not meet the general admission requirements may be admitted to Text-based Skills 1, Oral Skills 1, English for Employment and English for Social and Community Purposes if they:

  • Have an overall IELTS band score (Academic) of 5.0, or a TOEFL score of no less than 500, or equivalent; or
  • Have an appropriate Unitec English language qualification, such as the Certificate in Intensive English (Intermediate), or equivalent; or
  • Have an appropriate grade in the School of Language Studies Placement Test.

Applicants not meeting the general admission requirements may be admitted to Text-based Skills 2, Oral Skills 2, English for Academic Purposes and English for Business Studies if they:

  • Have an overall IELTS band score (Academic) of no less than 5.5 (with a minimum Writing score of 5.0), or a TOEFL score of no less than 525, or equivalent; or
  • Have an appropriate Unitec English language qualification, such as the Certificate in Intensive English (Upper Intermediate), or equivalent; or
  • Have an appropriate grade in the School of Language Studies Placement Test.

Applicants wishing to enrol in English for Employment must:

  • Be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents, or
  • Hold a current work permit.
