The programme is set within an academic culture of research and scholarship which enables students to achieve mastery in design through experiencing and contributing to theoretical study and research in design.
The Master of Design programme further expands the theoretical principles of the Bachelor of Design programme. It is not singularly defined and may embrace a wide spectrum of theory and practice components which can be variously weighted according to the research objectives of a particular project.
Learning outcomes for the MDes graduates are:
- communication and articulation of design concepts at an advanced level
- an understanding of the contexts of design theory and practices
- make a contribution to understanding within the specific area of the research project
- a command of research methods and creative practices as they relate to design
- a critical stance relative to the theories and practices of design
