If you want to take your hospitality skills to the highest level, then this unique degree programme is for you. The programme is based upon the BA (Hons) Hotel, Catering and Tourism Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and is fully supported by industry. As a result, the programme has both a strong international and domestic relevance preparing students for careers worldwide in these fast-growing industries.
The Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management (Specialty) offers majors in Hotel, Catering and Tourism Management, and combines practical skills with a strong academic programme. Graduates from the Otago Polytechnic programme will be eligible to join the Master of Science in Hotel and Tourism Management offered by the School of Hotel and Tourism at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, providing that they can meet the appropriate entrance criteria of the school.
You'll have the opportunity to study for one of three majors, depending on your area of interest. And you'll be able to augment your major with subjects from the other areas, ensuring a good grounding in all areas of hospitality and tourism.
The particular focus of the programme is the knowledge and skills required to manage a range of businesses in the hospitality and tourism sectors. This includes both day-to-day and strategic management.
As well as usual classroom teaching methods, field trips and industry visits are an important part of the programme. Students undertake work placement at the end of Years One and Two, and the School of Hospitality and Service Sector Management at Otago Polytechnic is actively engaged in seeking opportunities for students to work domestically and internationally.
