The postgraduate programmes in Environmental Studies at Victoria provide the opportunity
for students to put together meaningful and focused multidisciplinary courses of study and
research. As a postgraduate student, you are able to draw on diverse disciplines such as
Geography, Biological Sciences, Earth Sciences, Political Science, Public Policy, Public
Management, Economics, Law, Maori and Pacific studies, Commerce, Architecture, Physics,
and Chemistry.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Studies is a one year full time programme to supplement earlier academic or professional studies. It is designed to suit those already in the workforce who wish to augment or update their skillbase, or recent graduates wishing to broaden their undergraduate degree. It is the same as Part 1 of the Master of Environmental Studies.
The Postgraduate Diploma combines:
- 30 points of core coursework on environmental management and research methods
- another 90 points of courses selected from a range of tailored theory courses dealing
with the framework and practice of conservation and environmental management,
environmental law, economics and public policy, Maori resource management, and
climate change and energy (see below for individual course descriptions). - the opportunity to choose a 30 point honours or masters level course from a variety of
disciplines to complement or build on your undergraduate work. An example of a
recommended course is Sustainable Architecture, offered by VUW’s School of
Architecture.
