Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city, with 1.3 million people.

In the University of Auckland the degree of Master of Theology is the primary postgraduate degree and meets a perceived need within New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific region. The degree is currently offered in three primary areas: Biblical Studies; Christian Thought and History; Moral and Practical Theology.

Intending students are advised to consult with the Head of Department about September of the year prior to their enrolment for some preliminary discussion on a research topic and supervisor. Prospective candidates for the Degree are also strongly advised to seek reading lists for their subjects from the departments concerned and to use the summer vacation period for their preliminary reading. All candidates should note the advice provided by departments concerning language requirements. In Biblical Studies, Hebrew and/or Greek are essential while advanced study in any subject area requires some working knowledge of other modern languages such as German. All students are referred to the notes regarding the choice of thesis topic. The regulations for this degree are to be read in conjunction with all other relevant statutes and regulations including the Academic Statutes and Regulations.

Student enrolled for this degree has to follow a programme of one full-time year and pass courses with a total value of 120 points.
