Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city, with 1.3 million people.
Three programme options are available in the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree at Elam - Studio Practice, Thesis or Research Portfolio. You must have completed the equivalent of an undergraduate Honours degree or the equivalent of five years study in fine arts (including at least one year at a postgraduate level) to an appropriate standard of achievement at a recognised university to be eligible for entry to any of these programme options.
MFA - Studio Practice
This option is suitable for practitioners focusing on specialisation or cross disciplinary creative endeavour. You will pursue advanced research, innovation and experimentation in theoretical and technical aspects of contemporary art and design. You will also have the opportunity to explore interdisciplinary activities in fields such as painting, sculpture, installation, performance, printmaking, digital media and video.
This option is also suitable for practitioners focusing on a specialisation or cross disciplinary creative endeavour. You will pursue advanced research, innovation and experimentation in theoretical and technical aspects of contemporary art and design, and use this material to develop a written thesis.
MFA - Research Portfolio
This option is also suitable for practitioners focusing on a specialisation or cross -disciplinary creative endeavour. You will pursue advanced research, innovation and experimentation in theoretical and technical aspects of contemporary art and design, and use this material to develop a research a research project in a mode or modes appropriate to the topic, in a form approved by the Head of School.
