Jashan Pratap Singh Bajwa

Jashan Pratap Singh Bajwa was so impressed with the people in New Zealand and the Rotorua community when he arrived from India three years ago.

“I was impressed with the willingness of the New Zealand government and the people of New Zealand towards accepting people of other countries who bring different culture and cuisine with them. I also like the idea of green eco-tourism. Rotorua is very nice, the people and the culture. Also the life here in Rotorua is quite easy as compared to big cities like Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.”

Jashan had just finished high school when he came over to New Zealand to study. He loved interacting with people so decided to study the Diploma in Hospitality Management. Meeting and greeting people is definitely a strong character trait of Jashan's.

While studying in New Zealand, Jashan attained a job at the tourist attraction Te Puia. This helped him to see what the hospitality and tourism industries are like first hand.

“At present I’m working as a duty manager at Te Po Restaurant and Pohutu Café at Te Puia, New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute. I am thoroughly enjoying it, it's what I want to do.”

Because Jashan has enjoyed studying in the hospitality industry he has decided that staying in New Zealand and continuing to work his way up in the sector is something he is looking forward to doing.

“Waiariki is situated in Rotorua which is the centre of North Island. Tourism and hospitality are two of the biggest industries in Rotorua and there are a lot of career opportunities available here for future growth.”
