New Zealand Poetry Competition

 

It’s time to be creative, and express your feelings about the most amazing country in the world – New Zealand!

 

High school students in Germany are invited to participate in this competition to celebrate New Zealand, the guest of honour at the 2012 Frankfurt Book Fair.

Capture the beauty, mystery and personality of New Zealand in a poem and it could be presented live at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair!

Just write a poem no longer than one page and submit it on the New Zealand Educated – Germany Facebook Page for your chance to win.

There are two categories you can write about:

New Zealand
Transit of Venus*

You must submit your poem by Wednesday 5 September 2012 before 12.00pm to be included in the competition. A winner will be chosen from each of the two categories plus a People’s Choice award.

Once you have submitted your poem, be sure to let your friends and family know so they can “like” it. The finalists for the People’s Choice award will be the ones with lots of Facebook support.

The top poems in each category will be judged by New Zealand poets, and the winners will be announced on Wednesday 19th September 2012. We are looking at announcing the main winner at the FBF – this time is to be determined as we are still asking for a slot.

*The transit of Venus is a rare event where the planet Venus passes directly between the Sun and Earth, becoming visible against the sun. Several German poets visited New Zealand to capture their impressions of the transit that took place on June 5 and 6, 2012. Terms and Conditions:

By submitting a poem to the competition the writer gives permission to Education New Zealand to use the poem, or any segment of the poem, for the purposes of promoting New Zealand in perpetuity.

Entries must be written by current secondary school students enrolled at a school in Germany.

Entrants must abide by all Facebook policies.

The decision of the judges is final, and no discussions will be entered into regarding the results.

Prizes are not transferable and may not be exchanged for their cash value. If a stated prize is unavailable, a prize of similar value may be substituted by Education New Zealand.
