This degree provides a solid base for students wishing to contribute to Maori development, by teaching a range of skills relevant to contemporary Maori development issues while maintaining and further developing knowledge in cultural contexts. Students will develop management, business and communication skills valuable in the context of Maori development and interactions with a culturally diverse population, both within and beyond Aotearoa/New Zealand. The qualification also aims to extend and reinforce relevant cultural knowledge and skills important in maintaining a Maori identity in
development activities.
Graduates will be able to:
- contribute to a range of Maori development activities in a range of contexts;
- communicate at a high level both verbally and in writing;
- work confidently with communication technology;
- show a confidence in Maori environments and in their knowledge of tikanga and kawa as it applies to Maori development contexts;
- demonstrate business and enterprise related skills which will contribute to positive development in industries and ventures related to te ao Maori inaianei (current) and existing and emerging Maori
interests; and - demonstrate knowledge of policy, and the history and processes of settlements contributing to ongoing Maori development.
