If you have studied towards a qualification in your home country you may be able to have those papers or courses credited towards your New Zealand qualification.
You can get credit for prior study towards your course in New Zealand. If you have done the first year of a course in your own country you may be able to go straight into the second year in New Zealand. Talk to your institution about which courses can be cross-credited.
The process will be easy if your previous study was in an English-speaking country or one of the other countries acknowledged by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) or the Australian National Office of Skills Recognition (NOOSR).
If not, it may simply be a matter of providing the faculty department with a detailed description of the course you have studied so far.
It may be necessary for the Qualifications Recognition Services at NZQA to assess your qualification. The fee is NZ$730 and the process takes 35 working days provided you supply all of the required documentation.
You will have to provide original documents. You may also need translations from an NZQA-approved translation agency. In certain circumstances, the assessment may be ‘fast-tracked’, which takes 20 working days and costs $1125.
