Education institutions are closed on Saturday and Sunday but libraries are open over the weekend and in the evenings.
The normal working week for office workers is Monday to Friday, from about 8.30am to 5pm. Full-time workers get 4 weeks’ annual leave.
The main school and family holiday period is from mid-December to late January. There are 2-week school holidays in April, July and September. Universities and polytechnics usually have longer summer holidays than schools.
Each region has an anniversary day holiday. These occur on different dates through the year.
